Welcome the Year of the Dog this Chinese New Year with a colorful program of Far Eastern performances and activities on Al Maryah Island from February 15th – 16th. From Chinese drumming acts, to exciting live cooking stations, the island will be packed with authentic experiences for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th, a daily live show will captivate visitors of all ages as they are taken on a theatrical journey through the Orient. Twice-daily Chinese Opera performances will captivate the entire family, taking them on a musical journey through ancient China. Also offering colorful and dazzling ensembles and energetic, elegant routines will be traditional folk and fan dancers, as well as one of Chinese New Year’s most time-honored and iconic traditions: The Stunt Lion Dance and Chinese Drummers.
An electrifying fireworks display at 09:00 pm on Friday 16th will light up the island.
There will also be hands-on activities such as paper marbling, tangerines decorating, lantern making, Chinese calligraphy and face painting, , as well as live cooking stations dotted around the Promenade.
The Galleria on Al Maryah Island
The Galleria on Al Maryah Island’s interior will be transformed into an illuminating display of Chinese lanterns and decorations. A stunning Tree of Fortune (Ang Pao) will be located in the Ground Floor ‘Great Room’, where visitors can make a Chinese New Year wish.
An eclectic programme of roaming performances will enthrall visitors, as well as craft workshops, demonstrations of Chinese tea making and sugar painting, and more from February 15th – 17th. In addition, a Chinese art exhibition will be on display at The Galleria from February 13th until February 26th, displaying the artwork of the famous Chinese paper cut artist Yuan Chengxiang.
